1497
On 6 November 1497 a property deal was concluded at Grefsheim.
Jon Pedersson and his wife Gudrid sold the farm Baanerud in Elverum to Magnhild Oddsdatter, who lived at Grefsheim.
The deal was sealed with a handshake.
Four men were present as witnesses. In a letter they confirmed that the couple had received the whole price, to the last penny, and were satisfied with the settlement.
The letter was written on parchment and sealed. It survives in the National Archives, although one of the seals has been lost.
So we know fairly precisely what happened at Grefsheim on this November day more than 500 years ago.
