Jomfru Karine on a Scottish biscuit tin

1911

In 1911 a historical pageant was held to raise money for a museum at the cathedral ruins in Hamar.

Emelie Mellbye of Grefsheim played Jomfru Karine, the noblewoman who had owned the farm in the 1500s. She was rowed across Mjøsa from Grefsheim to Domkirkeodden, as Karine had travelled to church according to tradition.

A photograph from the pageant later met a rather unexpected fate.

It ended up on a biscuit tin from the Scottish maker McVitie's, labelled «Viking Shortbread».

Both the photograph and the tin lid are kept at Grefsheim.
