1923
Grefsheim once had its own motorboat, named after Jomfru Karine Alvsdatter, who owned the farm in the 1500s.
Jomfru Karine was about nine metres long, with a twin-cylinder engine and seats upholstered in wine-red plush. She carried people between Grefsheim and Hamar.
On 15 February 1923 the boat was on her way home from Hamar after a repair. Mjøsa was full of drift ice, and the sharp floes cut holes in the hull.
The boat sank. The skipper, Even Støen, died.
The accident was seen from land and a rescue began quickly, but Støen could not be saved.
Jomfru Karine was later raised and repaired. The hull was given extra protection against the ice, and Even's son Torleif took over as skipper.
The boat went on sailing Mjøsa until the mid-1930s.
