1941
In March 1941 the Gestapo, the German secret state police, came to Grefsheim and took away the farm's owner, Johan Egeberg Mellbye.
He had led the Norwegian Farmers' Union for more than 30 years. Now the German occupiers wanted to force the organisation under Nasjonal Samling, the Norwegian Nazi party.
Mellbye refused.
He was interned for 14 days and then kept under house arrest for the rest of the occupation. He was also forced to step down as chairman of the Farmers' Union.
