1700s
Christine Sophie Grønbech, née Vagel, was one of the great landowners of Hedmarken in the 1700s. She lived at Storhamar but also owned Grefsheim.
She was known as «the old lady» and had a reputation for being both proud and strict.
When she came to Grefsheim to inspect the farm, she liked to be carried about by the farmhands.
According to an account from 1916, things went wrong one day when the roads were especially muddy. The men carrying her are said to have been so tired of her strict ways that they dropped her straight into the mud.
There she lay, shouting in fury.
Whether it really happened like that, we do not know. But someone must have thought the story worth passing on.
